Butte College Athletics honored veterans and emergency responders in remembrance of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 at its football game on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021. The Butte College Roadrunners played visiting opponents, Laney College. Butte Roadrunners took the field and ran out with all six military flags and the cheer team.
The event kicked off with a pre-game barbecue for all law enforcement, military, and first responder personnel in the grove. The pre-game ceremony honored Butte College alumni and former football players Commander Will Fiack and Butte County Sherriff Kory Honea who served as the game’s honorary captains. Butte College President Samia Yaqub along with Butte College’s Athletics Director, Melody Stockwell, presented them each with game footballs.
At halftime, all active or retired military and first responder personnel were invited to join the Butte College Veterans Services at the 50-yard line, where a tribute to 9/11 was held and all active or retired personnel were recognized.
